It's not even been a week since the horrible school shootings in Oregon, and you can already tell what's going to happen in response: Too little.
But one response has already gone too far - and it's from the person that is currently in second place in many Republican polls - my constituent, Ben Carson.
Carson said "If everybody attacks that gunman, he's not going to kill everybody. But if you sit there and let him shoot you one by one, you're all going to be dead."
To blame the victims of school shootings for not being proactive enough in their own defense is not simply insensitive - it's offensive and an outrageous diversion from the real cause of gun violence: easy access to guns.
I'm sure the families of these victims - and victims of all gun violence - are disgusted with the suggestion that their lost loved ones simply didn't do enough - as politicians sit on their heels and do nothing to reduce these shootings.
There have been 262 school shootings since Columbine. I don't care what the politics of this are. As a parent, that is unacceptable.
